St. Albans is a spacious and scenic community located 7 miles west of Wildwood, on the border of Franklin County and St. Louis County. Perched on high bluffs above the Missouri River, St. Albans is home to some of the most picturesque neighborhoods in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. St. Albans began in the 1800s as a sleepy, rural community populated by German farmers. It first achieved prominence as a stop on The Lewis and Clark Expedition when Merriweather Lewis and William Clark stopped at the historic Tavern Rock Cave, located on the southern bank of the Missouri River. After St. Louis' development following the Louisiana Purchase, St. Albans became a retreat for affluent city residents. Expansive, uncultivated lands served as ideal locations for expansive country estates and well-manicured properties.
 
Today, this residential community, comprising an area of 5,400 acres, boasts a housing spectrum ranging from villas and patio homes to spacious estates. St. Albans’ homes sold for a median price of $1,392,307 in 2022. Distinct neighborhoods within the community are known for their quality architecture, and meticulously sculpted properties. Many homes are constructed out of rustic brick and stone that allowing these palatial properties to blend in with St. Albans' scenery and rural character. Homes in St. Albans benefit from winding, private lanes large, wooded lots, a seven day a week security service. Many homes are situated near country club grounds, nature preservation sites, or the scenic Missouri River. St. Albans is the State of Missouri's premier golfing community. The Country Club of St. Albans has two courses that offer 36 holes of championship golf. Golf Digest has consistently rated both club’s courses in the top ten in the state. The club also offers spectacular clubhouse dining, a junior Olympic-sized pool, and four professional-grade tennis and pickleball courts. The village of St. Albans offers a quaint commercial/retail office building and post office, a newly constructed 12-room lodge and conference center, the historic Head's Store and gift shop (opened in 1892 and a registered historic landmark), a community garden, a renovated cooking school hosted by award-winning chefs and authors, an amphitheater and pavilion for special events and small concerts, a 20-acre private lake with a sand beach and playground, whole house and cottage overnight accommodations and walking paths throughout the community.
